Saved Our Kitchen Cabinets & House Interior After Broken Water Pipe
We recently had a household disaster after a water pipe broke under our house flooded the crawl space. Humidity rose to 78% in our house. We had four cabinets in the kitchen (solid oak) that the doors would no longer shut. The entire house was as risk of complications. We first placed an industrial fan under the house for airflow.Next, we set up this dehumidifier to run continuously in our kitchen with the water draining into the sink using the included small hose. It was very easy to set up following the clear instructions. This unit is large enough to get the job done! There’s multiple choices of functions to meet a variety of needs. Great quality. Overall, very pleased. At first it ran non-stop. Then it started to cycle on and off as the environment improved. The entire house is now down to 45-50% humidity. We have yet to check under the house to see what that progress is, but we couldn’t be happier that all our kitchen cabinets have recovered and now close properly. The sound is noticeable while we are in the living room but it is not overpowering. No trouble watching TV while it’s running. I’m pretty sure this dehumidifier helped prevent thousands of dollars worth of damage had we not gotten the humidity down when we did. It more than paid for itself. Highly recommend.

Instructions not clear with drain-hose option
So this unit works just fine, but the instructions on how to use an external hose to drain the moisture outside, doesn’t address what to do with the provided bucket drain port. Since both drain options share the same “junction” with 2 ports, now the moisture is drained into the oustside drain-hose and filling the bucket, albeit slower. So, eventually the bucket will fill up and the unit will turn off. Which negates the continuous-non-stop run benefit of the drain hose. And, the unit dosen’t run without the bucket installed. I called customer support and asked if this bucket drain port is supposed to be plugged-up while using a drain hose. The very nice young girl put me on hold and came back and said that the instructions don’t mention anything about plugging the bucket drain port, (which I already knew) but she suggested that it should be plugged. Just a heads-up…

    Hoping for the best
So far so good.Convinced Waykar to take their broken (less than 3 months’ use) one back. Immediately bought this one.GE model is MUCH quieter, smaller, works better. after a week’s warmup here in central Tennessee the basement was feeling muggy- after the cold snap I turned it off – humidity measured 55%, GE dragged 2 gallons of water out of the air in 24 hours, humidity dropped to 40 where it’s holding steady, unit cycles automatically. Would definitely buy again.

Works good, calculated cost of energy to run it
50-pint PUMP version – I have a 625 sq ft (or so) garage attached to my not so thermally efficient or environmentally sealed 45-year-old house. The garage relative humidity ranges between 60%-70% when it’s 90% outside in the winter, and I’m guessing the relative humidity is only lower because heat bleads into the garage from the house. I let this sit for 24 hours to ensure oil settles and then turned it on high with setting set to 45%, not really expecting it to reach that point. It did in 9 hours according to a data logger I put on the opposite side of the garage. After 24 hours, I must have poured about a gallon or so of water out of the bucket. Set to “Smart Dry” and it’s been maintaining near that 45% setpoint. Ran it for a week with a Kill-A-Watt measuring kWh and calculated a cost of about $45/mo electricity cost to run it in “smart mode” at $0.17/kWh + taxes, which is a bit much.
