Best Microphone for $50 – Amazing Quality for the Price
I have been using the ZealSound BD9 microphone for a while now. It is really great to see how much this microphone gives you for around $50. The sound quality of the microphone is clear. It sounds very natural. This makes the BD9 microphone perfect for things like gaming, streaming, Zoom meetings, podcasting or recording videos. This microphone is a lot better than microphones that cost about the same.The controls are easy to use. If you long press the top, it will flash twice which means active noise cancellation is active. It does a great job of minimizing background noise so your voice sounds clean and clear. If you tap the top it will mute microphone. This is very useful when you are on a call or doing a stream and you need some privacy.The RGB lighting is really cool. It has 7 RGB modes that look amazing on my desk and they make my gaming setup look so much better. I also like that I can use the RGB lighting when I’m streaming. If I want my desk to look simple and neat I can turn the RGB lighting off. I really like that I can turn off the RGB lighting because it gives me the option to have a professional look when I need it.Setup is true plug-and-play with no drivers required, and the build quality feels solid and well-made. Overall, the ZealSound BD9 delivers excellent performance, useful features, and great design at an unbeatable price. If you’re looking for the best microphone you can buy for $50, this is it!

Solid mic that just works
Got this for gaming and general voice stuff on my PC. Happy with it.Sound is clean and clear with no buzzing or hissing in the background. My friends on Discord said I sound way better than I did with my old headset mic. The cardioid pickup does a decent job of focusing on my voice and not picking up everything else in the room.All the controls feel good to use. The touch mute on top is responsive and the whole mic turns red when muted so you always know where you stand. The two knobs on the front for gain and monitoring volume are smooth and easy to adjust on the fly. No hunting through software menus.The stand has good weight to it so it doesn’t tip over or slide around on my desk. Feels stable even when I bump the table.Setup was literally just plug it in and go. No drivers to install or settings to mess with. It just showed up as an audio device and worked.The RGB lights are a fun bonus. You can cycle through different effects or turn them off completely if that’s not your thing. Nice that it remembers your last setting.If you need a desktop mic for gaming, streaming, or work calls and don’t want to deal with complicated setups this one does everything it should.

The microphone was well boxed with a comprehensive user manual. Unpacking always provides first impressions and they were impressive quality both visually and to the touch- it felt robust and manufactured to a high standard.The microphone assembled really easily, just screw the microphone body to the base. The base incidentally is heavy and extremely stable. The two cables provided were useful to keep the set self contained, the audio cable and the dual connector USB cable (USB-C to USB-C/ USB/A).Set up could not be any simpler, literally plug and play.I connected the microphone to my Windows 11 laptop and it worked like a dream! I tested the microphone in the ‘sounds’ settings and playback was most impressive.The microphone is aesthetically very pleasing and sits nice and compact on my desk.Design wise it has all of the features required ,mute a tap on the top which turns the RGB red so is unmistakeable. A long press invokes noise cancellation which is a very useful feature. The RGB lighting definitely adds character and atmosphere to the proceedings and the lighting modes can be customized- flowing gradient, breathing effect, or solid colours but can be switched off if required.The Dual Volume Control Knobs giving Independent microphone and headphone adjustments provide that additional level of sophistication to optimise comfort to the user.The sound quality is clear with an underlying richness.I have successfully used the microphone streaming on my laptop, recording, conference calls and connected to my iPhone 16 and iPad 11. All were an impressive improvement to my previous set ups.For the price point, good value and highly recommended!

Honestly, finding a good condenser mic that actually plays nice with an Xbox controller is a nightmare, so this thing was a pleasant surprise. It plugs right into the controller (no messy splitters!), and the audio quality is a massive step up from my standard headset—my friends immediately noticed the difference in party chat.The “Real World” Experience:The Sweet Spot: The sound is crisp and professional, but you have to be close (within 6-12 inches). If you shove this behind your keyboard, you’ll sound distant. It’s definitely a desk mic, not a room mic.Build Quality: I love the weighted metal base—it doesn’t tip over—but the mic body itself is plastic and feels a little hollow. It looks great, just handle it with care.A Quick Warning: The touch-to-mute button turns the whole mic red, which is awesome, unless you turn the RGB lights off. If the lights are off, there is no mute indicator, so be careful!Verdict:If you want that “streamer sound” on a console without a complicated setup, this is a steal. I think this mic is a great option for a console gamer (less than ideal for PC/Mac) who doesn’t want to wear a headset all the time and whose setup can place this microphone on a desk/table spot within 5-12″ of their mouth. I’ve been using condenser microphones for years at this point and the main reasons are that it gets me better audio input quality (ie. it actually sounds like me talking) and I don’t end up with sore ears from longer headphone wear. (I started using them for conference calls but also do casual PC gaming. On conference calls people always comment on how cool my microphone looks, too.)The reason I’m giving this product four instead of five stars is because it’s advertised as for Xbox AND PC and Mac, but it seems impossible to use it in the advised way with a computer (explanation on that below). And then if you use it with Xbox you don’t get use of the noise cancelling feature, so it feels a little weird, like the use case that does work out doesn’t get use of all the features…?Why I say it’s impossible to use in the advised way with a computer is because it’s designed for a distance of 5-12″ between the speaker’s mouth and the microphone AND that the speaker is speaking in the direction of the microphone. If I’m facing my computer screen, the microphone needs to go between my keyboard and monitor in order for me to be speaking in its direction. I’m 5’8″ tall and putting the microphone there puts it 15-16″ from my mouth. There’s no option to attach this microphone to a boom so that I bring it closer and still have it be in front of me. So, for PC/Mac use, I think this is pretty flawed.Sound-quality-wise, when you’re in the 5-12″ range it was pretty good, but it does definitely drop off outside of that. I prefer the sound quality of the ZealSound Podcast Microphone to this one, but for that one I need to get in the 2-5″ range to get the sound quality out of it (and I have it on a boom to do that), so this one does give you more distance to play with *if you can make it work without a boom*. The difference was what my amateur ears interpreted as less richness and bass, but this Gaming Microphone was still orders of magnitude better than than the microphone on my computer and noticeably better than the microphone in my iPhone 14 Plus–so, comparing those two microphones by this same company is not at all to say this one is bad; in fact it’s pretty good.The mute button on top is nice as well as the dials on front–those seem to be standard on a number of the ZealSound microphones, like the Podcast one I’m using, and they’re really handy to have so accessible. On older USB condenser microphones I’ve owned, you had to adjust these things with software, and it feels like these dials are being brought over from what you’d get with a sound board, making them a nice hybrid.Lastly, I’ll comment on the appearance and build quality. The product was very quick to assemble (and it was plug and play); it was just a quick screw of the microphone into the base. All of the visible parts are a hard plastic. The base has a good weight to it, so I don’t worry about it falling over, and it has a foam non-slip layer on the bottom which is a nice touch. I also do really like the RGB lights that activate when the microphone is on. They match the changing lights on my mechanical keyboard.

I got this for using with an iPad and iMac, and it works great on both devices. The sound is really clear, and not poppy or mushy sounding at all. Volume wise it can go really really loud – when I first plugged headphones into the mic and listened via my iPad, I could hear the TV from the other side of the room and the recording volume was only in the middle. So, very versatile and also it’s really simple to use. I do read instructions but honestly I didn’t need to with this. The instructions actually seemed way more complicated than the actual process! A really nice quality microphone for the price bracket, and to top it all off, it just looks really, really cool with the coloured lights!The only ever so slight criticism I have, and it doesn’t even warrant reducing a star, is that the angle of the mic can’t be changed that much due to the leads in the bottom, but this shouldn’t be too much of an issue as long as you angle it forward/backward beforehand.
