Great Robot Vacuum that could be a bit smarter about obstacles
The vacuum works quite well. Programming it is straightforward. It does a very nice job of keeping the floors clear, and I have two long-haired cats that love the shed…constantly. I have not seen a fur dust bunny since I started using this device. I am very happy with it. It does tend to get caught up in my kitchen chairs, which required me to make adjustments. I wish the AI were a bit smarter about that, learning how not to get caught up, but it was a minor inconvenience. I love the large capacity of the stations bin, which means I do not have to empty it too often.

Great vacuum!
We had an old Eufy robot vacuum that just wasn’t worth the hassle of using. Our dogs hated the old vacuum and would chase it around, flip it down stairways, etc. It was time to replace it. I purchased a new Eufy self emptying model and hated it after one use. It got stuck in sooooo many places! Plus it had these tiny little bags that it emptied into that would require me to spend a fortune on replacement bags. I returned it and began researching Shark robot vacuums. I ordered this and was in awe of how well it worked! It mapped out our home and let me set up “no go” areas. I have this run every morning and it covers a large area, returns to the base to recharge and then resumes cleaning. It does a really nice job and has cut down on the time needed to run a manual vacuum. With two dogs and a busy household it gets a workout every day! It would not hold 60 days of debris for our household due to the dog hair. But that is not a big deal. I typically empty the canister every two to three weeks even though it isn’t full. It goes over area rugs like a champ! There are three floor vents that it will occasionally get stuck on if it hits them at the right angle…but that only happens about every other week…. and only on one of the three. Getting stuck once out of 14 runs isn’t too bad. Especially when our old Eufy would get stuck multiple times in one run.The cons have been that recently I will get an error saying the bin is not installed correctly…but it is and the vacuum continues to run and works just fine. It’s annoying that the app sends the notification while it is in fact working fine. The other complaint is about the app as well. If the vacuum does get stuck the app will not show where it is. You must activate the beeper on it to locate the vacuum. Not a big deal, unless of course the battery has died and it is unable to beep. Fortunately, we are aware of the three possible spots that it gets hung up and can check those if we are unable to locate it by sound. I do think the battery could last longer. It runs for about 45 minutes on normal power before it needs to return to recharge.Besides its cleaning ability the next best thing…our dogs completely ignore this vacuum! I don’t know if the older one made a sound that only they could hear and find annoying or what. But they have paid zero attention to this since its first run!

Third robot vacuum, self empty is worth it but……
As I noted in the headline, this is our third robot vacuum, as our Deebot 920 developed yet another issue with its lidar system and I finally gave up trying to fix it. I have been wanting to get something that had self empty, no mopping, and no bags.Which lead me to get this Shark AI. First some pros:The initial mapping went very quickly, and when it was done generating the map, accuracy was good. Seems to have taken the no-go zones I created to heartBattery life is solid, and it’s a major step up from my old machine with the Nickel metal hydride battery. Lasts longer and recharges fasterAuto empty works! We have a giant German Shepherd whose shedding season never stops, which with the old vacuums meant that I’d have to empty the bin halfway through the main living area, then again another half hour later. The auto empty bin keeps me from forgetting which keeps the machine cleaning decently.Noise is fine, about the same as my old Deebot, maybe a touch quieter. Except of course, when the auto-empty bin kicks off which is to be expected as it needs to get everything out fast!It uses a (mostly) logical path for cleaning, but this also falls into the cons which I’ll talk about as well. Doing single high traffic rooms is easy.Build quality seems fine, nothing bad to say. Latches seem solid to start anyway. There are some cons however.Given that this machine is several years newer, I’m baffled as to why it doesn’t have any kind of progress that shows on the map. My old Deebot would dutifully record and report where it was via the app at all times. Which is really nice when you are cleaning the rest of the house along with him- that way you know whether or not you can mop an area. This seems like a basic gimme that Shark is really missing.Brushes are singles rather than triples. It does mean that I’ve seen a bit of missed stuff where my old machine seemed to pick it up just fine.Vacuum power with any of these is not going to be like an upright, so with that expectation set, it does not seem to do as good of a job as the old deebot on the two area rugs. Which is okay, as I usually hit them with the upright from time to time anyway, but max power should at least get it as good I would expect, which it doesn’t.Paths, although logical, are really oddly decided by the bot. The older machine would do a perimeter path, then start in a corner and work it’s way out. This guy goes right through the middle of the room and then starts going off and doing sections, which seems to take longer. He also tends to get confused a bit more under chairs and with some obstacles. So overall, are any of the cons a deal breaker? Not for me at this point, they are mostly just annoyances, although the lack of progress on the map almost made me pack it up and send it back. The auto empty covers a lot of sins, and for the price point compared to other auto empty models, it seems to be a pretty solid performer so far. I’d give it 3.5 stars overall- if they update the mapping to show progress, I might well bump it up.
