Why hire a cleaner?
My Roomba Plus 405 arrived yesterday! Firstly, the installation and set up were easy. The manual didn’t even need to be opened up, though, it’s great to have for reference when needed. The easy step-by-step instructions were clearly written on the cardboard in one of the boxes it came in and that’s literally all it took. The QR code was shown at the end to set up the Roomba app which once again, was clear and easy to understand.Once you connect the device to your WiFi and it’s ready to go from its dock, you just direct it to map out your place from the app which took less than 30 min and I was impressed at how smart it is that it can sense the boundaries of each room without actually going to every corner or to the wall. My first floor is about 2,800sq ft and the map looks accurate. I don’t have 18 rooms or whatever it labeled but you can rename each area/room once the mapping is completed. The app is extremely user friendly and it shows how much battery life the device has, when your parts need to be replaced or refilled, cleaning can be scheduled, you can tell it to clean only rooms/areas you desire, and you can choose to only vacuum/only mop/or do both.I chose to vacuum & mop today and you can literally watch the live path it takes to do the cleaning. At times, it ran out of water for mopping so it voiced that it was going back to the dock to refill and it came right back to the exact area it stopped at when it resumed. It is thorough with every inch unlike when it was just roaming around when it was mapping.The noise level is about a 3, you can definitely hear it working but it’s not too bothersome. I do suggest that once you get use to how it works after a few times, it’s probably better to do it when you are not at home. At one point it did get stuck when it went under a stool while cleaning though I have a feeling it won’t do it again (who knows I could be wrong but this thing is impressively smart).I have all tile floor on my first floor with area rugs and various places throughout the house. They are low-pile rugs and it had no problems going on and off of them. The only thing I need to do is to remove the smaller, thin runner rug that I have while it cleans because it just pushes it instead of going over (but honestly, it’s the lightest runner, one that can be easily washed in the machine).I don’t have pets at my home but I have two kids who bring home friends over almost daily. This is going to work out GREAT for me, I actually feel bad for it because it looks like it’s working diligently while I sip on my coffee! So far, I absolutely love it and highly recommend it. I want to say it’s worth every penny but I know I’m a new user so I hope I feel this way for a very long time. It’s definitely great for working people with young kids that are involved in many activities. Perfect for busy moms and dads!

Complete failure. Multifaceted disgrace to the robot vac/mop world
Like many of the other unhappy reviewers, my robot is ridiculous. Out of the box was easy, setup was easy, first mapping of my house was easy. Then I started cleaning. It cannot handle throw rugs — like ever. My other robot vac before this was smart enough to just — ya know — clean them. This one, it cannot. Fine, I say, I’ll toss the area rugs on the patio while the robot is cleaning. The mopping seemed worlds better than my old vac/mop. Unlike my other vac/mop, this one just has two rotating pads that it goes to the station to get wet, and then after 50, 100, or 150 sq ft (you set it up in the app) it will go back and clean the pads. This honestly seems to work fine. But after day 1, it couldn’t connect to the app. I started with the chat customer service – and then got disconnected by them for 5 min of inactivity — while we were waiting for the vacuum to do something. With no way to get back in touch with that helper, I decided to call the toll free customer service line. Waited on hold for 30 minutes, then got someone who helped me for about 30 minutes. Had to do TWO factory resets. It continued to do odd things (“Push and hold the home button” “It started driving around while I’m doing that. I’m still holding it.” “Hmm. That’s odd.” YES IT IS!). We did a map of just one room in my house to make sure it was working properly again. It was successful, in that it mapped one room and began vacuuming it while I was on the phone with him. He had me delete that map and then instructed me to just create a new map of the house. Started that process and then he called the ticket closed. But oh, no sir, it is not closed. After creating the map of the house, it says to check it in the app. Guess what? It still doesn’t want to connect to my stupid app. Reset again. Mapped the house again. Failed again. Called customer service again. 30 minute wait again. Then he says the ticket needs to be escalated to the next level of support and they would get back to me within 24 hours. It’s been over 48 hours and still nothing. Today, for fun, I factory reset it again. Success. I mapped the house. Success. I said, ok go clean. And then it stopped communicating with the app. App has no idea where it is, what it’s doing. It’s sitting on the stinking dock and the app is like, you might need to factory reset. I’m done with it. It drags the mop across the carpet — doesn’t lift the pads high enough. It gets tangled on everything (another reviewer said it seeks them out to eat them and I don’t disagree). It actually got tangled up in a sandal. A freaking SANDAL. Like, how about you avoid the shoes?! And it eats the throw rugs. Every time. The vacuuming was sub-par. All along the area rug (the entire house flooring is tile, and we have area rugs and throw rugs throughout), there was a line of dirt. Last big thing for me, is the amount of hair that gets stuck in the main roller. My bot was making hecka racket, so I went to check the rollers. Sure enough there’s a ton of dirt that’s just hanging out, not getting sucked away. I pull out the roller to clean and the hair is wrapped up *under* the little green rubber roller. It’s impossible to get out. And I agree with other reviewers – it’s noisy. My other vac/mop is quieter and it’s 10 years older. This is such a failure even at 50% off prime day savings, I would never recommend. It’s going back.

I absolutely love my new Roomba! Best floor-cleaning helper ever!I bought this Roomba to help with the chore I like the least – mopping. First, I did a little research, and I decided to spend a little more on this model because I liked the spinning mop pads, figuring they would do a better job scrubbing my floors to my satisfaction. Plus, the auto-washing base is magical and a must-have. It takes care of refreshing the mop pads while it’s cleaning so it’s not continually mopping with gross, dirty pads. And when it’s all done, it will wash and dry them too! No need for me to do it! The base also runs a self-cleaning cycle, that way it doesn’t get musky or mildewy. It’s pretty much a hands-free system. All I do is fill the water tank when needed and empty the dirty when it gets full. Easy-peasy.I can set up a cleaning schedule, but mostly I just start cleaning from the app, or use voice commands. I found everything very easy to set up. It literally mapped my home in minutes and was ready to go!Overall, I’m very impressed with how well it cleans. The vacuum takes care of all those little fluffies and hairs and little bits on the day-to-day. It automatically boosts power on the carpet by my entrance and will lift the pads in the back, so nothing gets wet. The robot will also empty itself into the base for months before I’ll need to worry about removing the bag.The only hiccups I’ve had were when it sucked up my bathmat and got stuck. I got an alert on the app. I know now that it’s too light and I’ll need to put it up from now on. It also got too close to some power cords under my entertainment unit. However, the app lets you create Keep Out zones, so once I placed one over the area I wanted it to stay out, and haven’t had any problems since.Roomba saves me so much time fussing with my floors. It’s only been a short time but I’m very pleased with the performance. When I come home it feels fresh and clean. It’s a relief to not worry about running a vacuum or dragging out the mop because it’s already taken care of.

It worked excellent right out of the box. Mapped out my place perfectly, then cleaned it no problem.I tried to run a routine later the same day because of some mess that could be mopped up and it stopped working properly already. It will be in a totally clear space and claim that the bumpers are stuck.
