UWB Smart Lock U400
Aqara Smart Lock
Aqara Cameras & Hubs
Aqara Sensors
True Hands-Free Unlocking with UWB Technology: Experience a new era of smart access — UWB (Ultra-Wideband) detects your incoming presence, direction, and intent to unlock automatically as you approach. It provides a faster, more convenient, and highly secure way to enter your home without touching the lock. Perfect when your hands are full, you’re wearing gloves, or arriving in the rain. (Note: UWB unlocking requires a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub and is supported on Apple Watch Series 6 or later (excluding SE) running watchOS 11.5+ and iPhone 11 or later (excluding iPhone SE & iPhone 16e) running iOS 18.5+.)
All-in-One Unlocking Options: Enjoy Apple home key tap-to-unlock (requires an Apple Thread-enabled Matter controller: HomePod 2nd Gen, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K 2021/2022), plus fingerprint, touchscreen passcode, voice assistant control, app remote access, NFC card support (card sold separately), and a physical key, giving you flexible, reliable ways to enter your home in any situation.
Matter Over Thread for Multi-Ecosystem Compatibility: Built with Matter over Thread, the U400 can connect to multiple smart home platforms simultaneously, allowing you to enjoy the unique features of each ecosystem. Thread offers faster response, more stable connectivity, lower power consumption, and secure data transmission. Note: A Thread-enabled Matter controller from each ecosystem is required for its respective platform.
Convenient Rechargeable Power System: Powered by a rechargeable and removable lithium battery that lasts up to 6 months per charge. Use the lock’s USB-C port to recharge without taking the lock offline, or remove the battery and charge it separately. A low-battery voice alert will notify you when the battery drops below 20%, ensuring you never get caught off guard.
Certified Security & Outdoor Durability: BHMA-certified for proven protection, mechanical strength, and long-term reliability. The IP65-rated exterior guards against dust and water for dependable outdoor performance. Plus, the rekeyable design allows you to change the physical key without replacing the entire lock cylinder.
Unlock More Features with the Aqara App: Customize your security with Auto Lock, Night Latch Mode (only admins and physical keys can unlock at night), and Do Not Disturb Mode. Integrates seamlessly with Aqara cameras like the G5 Pro and G410 doorbell, allowing you to view visitors and unlock directly via live video interaction.

Most impressive lock I’ve come across.
The Aqara U400 really changes the game when it comes to modern smart locks, especially with its ultra-wideband unlocking. It’s insanely fast, super smooth, and just works every time. I haven’t had a single issue since using it. It’s also a bit of a party trick—guests are always impressed when they see it unlock automatically, just like with the other smart features built into the lock. The locking and unlocking is noticeably quicker thanks to the updated motor. Even compared to the U100—which was already fast—this feels snappier and more precise. Everything about it feels solid and intentional. I’m also a big fan of the refreshed design. The U100 already looked modern, but the rounded edges on the U400 and the new anti-peep keypad (where the numbers stay hidden until you activate it) really give it a premium vibe.Another big win is the rechargeable battery. It’s just as reliable as the disposable batteries from the U100, but way more convenient. You can even hot-charge it, meaning you can plug it in and keep using it at the same time—huge plus.Feature-wise, it checks every box: facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, passcodes, NFC cards, automations, USB access, remote control, and even a physical key if you want it. Managing access is easy too, whether you’re setting up permanent users or temporary access for guests.Honestly, there’s not much to complain about. If I really had to nitpick, the lock is on the larger side—but that’s minor. If you’re shopping for a smart lock, this one pretty much ends the search. It does everything you’d want and then some. Another solid win from Aqara, and easily one of the best products in their catalog.

Troublesome binding to hubs
Going to try again tomorrow but right now, it’s pretty useless.Initial setup seemed promising and it updated firmware after the battery charged a bit (it arrived below 20%) but then immediately lost binding with the Aqara hub and went no response in HomeKit. I reset all the Matter stuff and can’t seem to do anything with it. Bluetooth only stays connected for a few seconds before disconnecting, too. I don’t think the initial calibration worked properly either because the knob sits at about 45 degrees when it’s fully locked and the door open/close indicator is incorrect more often than not. The battery % and charging status wasn’t synchronized between Aqara app and Apple Home. No idea if UWB works because I couldn’t get to those settings before everything went wonky.I am going to reset the lock and try adding directly to Apple Home first and see if that works any better and will update my review based on those results. Aqara really needs to fix their sub-par Matter controllers.UPDATE:Added a star back because I was finally able to get it bound to Apple Home (after about 10 resets and pairing attempts) and connectivity has been solid for a couple days. UWB unlock on approach operates as expected. Calibration is still wonky where the motor doesn’t extend the deadbolt as far as it can go, leaving the toggle switch just shy of horizontal. Manually turning the lock allows me to close it all the way. This is making me hesitant to put this thing on my main door. I’ve also noticed that my phone maintains a persistent bluetooth connection with the lock when I’m in the house. My understanding is this connection is a requirement for the UWB features, but I’m wondering if this will cause excessive battery drain over time. Battery percentage and active charging status does not update on the Apple Home accessory page with any amount of reliability so any notifications about low battery will likely arrive when its far too late. Getting really tired of this new technology cycle of feeling like a beta tester for products that I’ve paid full price for.

Best smart lock I’ve ever used
Installation was easy, and unit works great. UWB unlocking is fantastic. Setting everything up was a little unintuitive from a software standpoint, but once figured out everything’s been straightforward and reliable.I love the design. The UWB auto-unlock and instant auto-relocking functions work fantastic. The motor is adequately strong for our needs. I really appreciate the rechargeable battery pack, which I’ve never seen in a smart deadbolt before.Fingerprint registering was a little finicky and troublesome but has worked great once setup.I’ve used closed to a dozen smart deadbolt locks over the past ten years and this is the first I’ve found that I think I’m completely satisfied with.

The first UWB lock!
I had high hopes for this based on all of the online videos and reviews on here so far. Install for me went smooth. Added to Apple Home no problem. However, at least so far the UWB unlocking is very inconsistent. Sometimes it works immediately as i’m walking up, sometimes I have to stand there for a few seconds, and sometimes it never unlocks. This contradicts every other review i’ve seen so far that says it’s ultra reliable so I’m hoping it’s just an early firmware issue or something that i’m experiencing. Holding out hope until the return period end is closer.

I got this lock due to the UWB- I don’t have an iPhone so I’ll be waiting for the Open Standard to be deployed later this year. For now I’m enjoying super fast unlocks with fingerprint, the native integration with Home Assistant, and the future proofing. The only downside is the plastic feel as many others have reported: for a near $400 door lock, it should feel a lot more robust than the cheap plastic that it is.

The product arrived and looks great and I’m sure it will function just fine. But if you don’t have a door with a recessed portion for a T-Style deadbolt you’re screwed. As you can see in my pictures I have a drive in deadbolt style which is fairly common. The T-plate is not removable on the deadbolt from Aqara unlike many other manufacturers who send out locks, not sure why they went this route. It looks like there is a solution for the U100 (not sure if it also works with the U400, but I’m assuming it will) you can buy this from Amazon: “The Design House 783332 Pro Deadbolt“ and it should work. I’m gonna order this because I really want the UWB feature in a smart lock and I guess I am this far in… would be great if the company made it so there deadbolt was convertible like other brands.

Think twice if you don’t have an Aqara hub. Have been trying to add this u400 to HomeKit for 2 days, no luck. Manual, videos, online posts, nothing helps. My other matter smart lock set up flawlessly in a few minutes. Fingerprint reader is annoying, and only works to unlock not relock. The app sucks. Overall this product is poorly thought out despite what Aqara fanboys and Youtube influencers / marketers may say. Sorry Amazon, this trash is getting returned.
